The Beurs van Berlage is in the heart of the historic city of Amsterdam, only 5 minutes walk away from Amsterdam main station. Most famous sights of Amsterdam are in walking distance, and many more are easily reachable by public transportation.
The easiest and cheapest way to pay for public transportation in the Netherlands is the so-called OV Chipcard. It is for sale in all train stations and you have to charge it on one of the charging stations before using it on trains, trams, or buses. If you only travel from the airport to the conference venue and back, it is easiest to buy a one- way "disposable OV Chipcard". If you plan to use public transportation more frequently during your stay, or if you are travelling more often to the Netherlands, we recommend to buy a "anonymous OV Chipcard". For more details, also on refund of credit, see the OV Chipcard website.
There are a number of different Amsterdam public transport passes that are especially suitable for tourists and short-stay visitors. For more details on these offers, see the Iamsterdam website on public transportation offers.
For more details on schedules of all public transportation in the Netherlands, we recommend to use the 9292 website and/or install the 9292 Android app or the 9292 iOS app on your smartphone.
There are numerous restaurants and bars along the streets surrounding the conference venue, especially around the southern Dam square. Just off the main streets, restaurant The Lobby Nesplein and restaurant/bar de Brakke Grond are great places for a delicious lunch or dinner, or drinks afterwards. Alternatively, head west from the venue to the restaurants in between the canals along the Herenstraat and Prinsenstraat.
Directly east of the train station, the Kattenburg island features several fun bars. Consider making your way to Hanneke's Boom (also for lunch!), or a bit further off the beaten track to Amsterdam Roest or Brouwerij 't IJ for drinks.
Just across the IJ (the river; not the brewery), the former industrial NDSM wharf is now a cultural hot spot, with hip restaurants and bars as well as open-air movie screenings and live music. Top recommended spots are Pllek and Noorderlicht, with cozy terraces along the docks. Ferries leave from the train station until midnight, taking you across the IJ.
Outside the immediate city center, de Pijp district hosts a busy daytime street market along the Albert Cuypstraat -- presumably the largest in Europe. At night, the area bursts with small eateries from the many different ethnic backgrounds that make up this typical Amsterdam neighborhood. Inside a colorful former church, the restaurant Bazar is an often-heard recommendation.
From atop the Kalvertoren, the lunchroom Blue Amsterdam provides a great 360-degrees view over the city. If you're in the area for a quick dinner, stop by Ter Marsch " Co's burger restaurant just across the street. Make sure to also pass by the old Pathé Tuschinski cinema building; a wide range of nice restaurants can be found a bit further south, along the Utrechtsestraat.
The famous museums of Amsterdam can be found just outside the canals around the Museumplein, within walking distance of the Vondelpark. For maximal tourist points, this is also where the stationary 'I Amsterdam' letters can be found -- there's another set traveling across the city. Just a few tram stops north of the Vondelpark one finds the Foodhallen, a large indoor food court.
We recommend RWC 2022 participants to book accommodation via the RWC 2022 Hotel Booking Service offered via our venue Beurs van Berlage. For the 4 selected hotels this service offers special prices and conditions (e.g., for cancellation) for RWC participants. All the hotels are in close walking distance to the conference venue.
Do you have a family and would like to bring them along to Amsterdam for the 2022 edition of RWC? If you are interested in childcare during the conference, please contact us and we will see that we can arrange something at the venue.
At the RWC venue we have a breastfeeding room, which also has a fridge. If you would like to have access to this room during the conference, simply ask us at the RWCreception desk.
